FOOTY DREAMS

CAIRO SALVATIERRA
For as long as I can remember, football has been my life. My love for the game was instilled in me by my dad at a young age, along with a love of travel.
The name Footy Dreams springs from two things:
First, I wanted to capture shots that make people think, “WOW, I would love to play there,” and share with you my dream of traveling and playing on different pitches around the world.
Second, I wanted to capture grounds where dreams are born, where every kid can see him or herself playing in the World Cup in front of tens of thousands of cheering fans, and scoring the game-winning goal.

Football has as many stories to tell as there are people
who watch and play it. There are stories of fame and
fortune, stories of heartbreak and sorrow, stories of
passion and compassion.
Aside from the photo on the right, all the photos are of empty pitches.
But they aren’t really empty.
Look closely.
Each is a testament to the beauty of simplicity that enables a game to be played for the sheer joy of playing.
When I was younger, I wanted to become a professional footballer, and then a photographer once I retired.
My love of photography, love of the game, and joy of seeing the unique places people play football around the world led to the creation of Footy Dreams.

My good luck Arsenal mini pitch, tucked somewhere along the walk from Bank of Friendship pub to the Emirates, right beside the fabled, no-longer-in-use Arsenal Stadium at Highbury.
It always brings back memories of the icons who made me fall in love with Arsenal: the unstoppable Henry, the majestic Bergkamp, the tenacious Vieira and the creative Cesc – the legend from whom my brother Nico even got his nickname.
All that to say, a stroll by this pitch hasn’t let me down yet. My perfect 17/17 Arsenal win streak is still intact, partly thanks to it.
I probably just jinxed my self for the next match. But hopefully not.
COYG!
